George's Meeting House is a centrally located JD Wetherspoon pub in Exeter, housed in a Grade I listed 18th-century chapel. It serves food daily from 8am to 10pm and alcohol from 9am to midnight (1am on Fridays and Saturdays). The pub is known for its real ales, including Greene King Abbot, Greene King IPA, Sharp's Doom Bar, Exeter Darkness, and Summerskills Indiana's Bones. While it doesn't have a reputation as a dedicated football pub, its central location and all-day food and drink service make it a convenient stop for fans before or after matches. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}
It's a Wetherspoons, predictable and reliable. It's in an old church so If you don't look at the carpet you could forget its a Wetherspoons and enjoy the historical building. Food was nice and quick and served with a smile.
Visited there twice and both times had good times with my partner. Helpful staff. Lovely venue 18th century old chapel with stain glass windows. Seatings upstairs ha ing nice view of ground floor. Had dinner there and forgot my jacket. Called them to ask if they still holding it and next day i visited again for breakfast and collecting my jacket. Very thankful to them for taking care of their customers.
I’m really disappointed with the way my friends and I were treated during our recent visit. We accidentally knocked over a box of bottled water, and instead of being approached calmly, we were spoken to in a very rude and confrontational manner. The staff member with brown hair who dealt with us was abrupt and dismissive, and before we had a proper chance to apologise or offer to help clean up, we were told to leave. One of our drinks was also taken away, even though the situation was clearly an accident. We understand that accidents can be frustrating for staff, especially during busy periods, but the way this was handled felt unnecessary and unprofessional. A bit of understanding and basic courtesy would have gone a long way. I hope management looks into this, as experiences like this really put us off returning.
Cheap and cheerful. Its good value for money and good service. Cant really complain about a spoons, given the value. Always busy, which helps create a good atmosphere. Nice little courtyard garden too, which is great on a warm day. Toilets are almost within walking distance too :)
A tasteful Spoons conversion of an old Meeting House with a tremendous terrace to the rear providing an excellent sun trap. Beers well kept but nothing terribly exiting on cask today.
