Ye Olde Black Bull

out of 649 reviews

Why is Ye Olde Black Bull good for fans?

Right in Stratford town centre opposite Stratford Mall and about 0.25 miles from Stratford station, it’s an easy meet-up before West Ham at the London Stadium. The pub lists big screens and football among its facilities and appears on a local Sky Sports list, so early/late kick-offs are shown. CAMRA notes it gets very busy when West Ham are at home, and it’s included in round-ups of pubs for West Ham fans—so expect a lively home-crowd atmosphere on matchdays.

A pretty pub in Stratford with a range of keg beers and a couple of cask ales normally (the TTs Landlord was turned today). Service is excellent and people jovial. There is a small courtyard at the rear. A gentle enjoyable place for a beer or two. I liked the bit of pub etiquette posted on the bar. Better put this away or I'll die of thirst!

Always greeted with a warm welcome by the owners and staff. The drinks are always for a high standard and reasonable prices. The pub it’s always clean and tidy and a nice atmosphere inside. It’s particularly good for sports if interested multiple screen’s showing all kinds of sport. If in the area it is worth a visit or if you a local you will not be disappointed. 10 out of 10 every time A good public house very few left these days.

Friendly neighborhood pub with great ales. My favorite was the Tribute.

This pub was the best thing about living in Stratford - we go back when we can, despite living across London now. The staff - Richard, Joan, Sarah - are absolutely wonderful, and I miss being able to pop in of an evening to say hello! The atmosphere is great, a convivial local, and big sporting events are always great there.

I visited here ahead on an Iron Maiden gig that was taking place up the road. It was rammed wall to wall but staff did a great job of getting through everyone swiftly. I particular like the sign on the wall advising that if you stand at the bar on your phone you won’t be served. Good for them 🤘

ABUSIVE PUB – STAY FAR AWAY! I went into this pub and bought a pack of cheddar crisps. Because it was one of the "cheaper" purchases, I was verbally abused by both owners. They told me to leave and said I was not welcome, insisting this was not a "public pub." I simply wanted to sit down, charge my phone, eat my crisps, and then get a drink once I was settled. The pub was empty at the time. I was told I had no right to use their electricity. The level of abuse and disrespect I received from the women that owns the pub was absolutely disgusting and left me in shock. Avoid this pub at all costs. Horrible owners.

At last! A pub that serves proper cask beer and not vast amounts of Lager and IPA. After three local pubs not having any 'proper beer, l thoroughly enjoyed my pint of Timothy Taylors. Reasonable prices,as well. A proper Pub.

We had a deeply disappointing experience during our recent visit. One of our friends was unfairly pushed by a lady who claimed she didn’t like his behaviour—despite him doing nothing wrong. The situation felt racially motivated, and when I tried to calmly apologise and de-escalate things, she insisted he would not be allowed to return. Given how unjust and uncomfortable this was, we decided to leave as a group. It was an upsetting experience, and frankly, I’m still at a loss for words.
