The Marquis Colchester

Why is The Marquis Colchester good for fans?

Town-centre pub on North Hill close to Colchester Castle, handy as a meet-up before heading to Colchester United. It shows Sky Sports (and has previously advertised Sky & BT/TNT Sports), so you can catch early/late kick-offs. The pub serves food with stated kitchen hours across most matchdays, making it practical for pre-match meals. WhatPub lists it as close to bus routes and about 1.1 km from Colchester (North) station, helpful for onward travel to the JobServe Community Stadium.

Google maps says kitchen is open all day. Staff informed us kitchen opened at 6:30PM. Waited for 45min, then we were informed they wouldn’t serve food as there was a table of 11 they had to prioritize and the kitchen unfortunately didn’t have enough staff. The outside area is nice in the summer, staff is polite, but customers are hangry.

A fantastic pub at the bottom of north hill. Great service at all times and they do great food and good offers too. Fantastic bar garden and also show live sport. The pub has a lot of character due to being founded in 1520.

We only popped in to have some quick drinks before and after our bottomless brunch, but it was still a good experience. The staff were really nice and the atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon was really good. I don't remember too much, honestly, as we'd had a lot to drink... I would recommend a nice place to drink with mates, especially on a nice sunny day as the garden was a nice place to sit outside. It's probably the best part of the building.

Lovely quaint pub with different seating areas. Staff were ever so friendly and helpful. Food was a very pleasant surprise. Wasn't expecting much but it was delicious. The mozzarella & Pesto salad was fresh and very tasty. The mix grill was everything you want from a mix grill. They had run out of rump steak so was given a burger... this looked homemade and was really tasteful, and the egg was perfect 👍. Will definitely go back when in the area again 😀
