Very very poor overpriced roast. The meat was dry and brown and clearly wasn't cooked that day (we were the first diners in for lunch). A shame as the outside had hints that it had once-upon-a-time been seasoned well. The roast potatoes were pulpy, the broccoli and cauliflower mushy with a hint that they'd been sprinkled with salt before serving. The dessert wasn't much better. The brownie was dry and had odd chewy sections. Almost like an older brownie had been reconstituted into the mix. The crumbles didn't really resemble a crumble - more of a heap of stewed apple dowsed with custard. The insistence we had to order dessert at the same time as the main was farcical given we were the only diners and so little effort clearly goes into preparing the desserts. The young woman serving was very pleasant and attentive. I see the owner pops on here to say they'll report to the kitchen and improve ... but given that similar reviews have been posted for over 6 months, I wouldn't hold out much hope. Parking is available but poorly signposted and it's charged.

The food is absolutely pathetic in terms of size, average taste – font of house service was very pleasant, but when we complained about our food, the manager seemed less than sympathetic (although upon request she did come to speak to us). Otherwise, good location. I cannot speak for the rooms as we did not stay here, but we will be most certainly never, ever, considering eating here again.

This Hotel is definitely in need of a lot of TLC. It is extremely jaded in all areas. The room was a good size and was clean but the shower area was quite shabby. The breakfast was extra with tea/coffee & juices extra again! the only option for breakfast was a full English with no cereal or yoghurt/fruit at all. No member of staff appeared to be around in the morning with doors into the restaurant & bar area locked. Thankfully, we had ready read the restaurant reviews & booked elsewhere for our evening meal. On a positive note there was plenty of tea/coffee available in the room .

Decent stop to eat close to the Hellfire caves. We ordered a sandwich, but they were out of bread, and we were actually quite glad because the fish and chips was a much better choice! The chicken burger was decent and I thought it was nice to have the choice of 2 slaws, although seemed a bit unnecessary to eat both. Chips on both meals were lovely. The lady behind the bar greeted us really quickly and was very attentive too!

Fantastic pub and hotel. The building is very traditional and full of character. Our room was clean, nice and spacious with en suite and it was the cheapest around. Very comfortable stay and a lovely traditional pub downstairs with good beer and friendly staff. Ample free parking in rear car park.

Honestly had high hopes for this place, the Sunday roast menu looked lovely. But when the food arrived, the vegetables were clearly mixed vegetables from the microwave packets, the Yorkshire puddings were so thick was like eating an undercooked cake. I can only speak for the Sunday roast, maybe their other menu is OK.. but I'm not in a hurry to go back

The place could do with a bit of sprucing up, but it was a lovely atmosphere, the staff were wonderful and the locals were welcoming. Plenty of parking and a lovely pub, restaurant and beer garden. In easy walking distance of plenty of good walks and local attractions. Highly recommended all round.

What an absolutely amazing place to stay! Friendly staff, big rooms, comfortable beds, and this touch of history. There is a lovely pub downstairs, the staff is friendly and helpful and there is a romantic garden area. I already plan to be back here for my holidays, and I will stay at the exact same hotel.
