The Edinburgh Castle Pub

Why is The Edinburgh Castle Pub good for fans?

Set in Ancoats, Edinburgh Castle has a traditional downstairs pub (walk-ins for drinks) and a full restaurant upstairs, making it a handy pre-match meeting point for food and pints in the city. The venue serves lunch and dinner across the week (with daytime service on Fridays and Saturdays) and publishes current menus. For beer-minded fans, the pub highlights a line-up of ales; CAMRA notes a house beer brewed by Ringwood, and recent tap activity shows recognisable names like Beavertown and Timothy Taylor’s poured here. All of this makes it a practical spot for supporters to convene for a meal and a quality pint before or after a game in Manchester.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Bangkok Diner’s Club at Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The menu is a thoughtful take on Thai cuisine—beautifully presented, rich in flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Each dish brought a perfect balance of spice, freshness, and texture. The crispy pork belly in a rich, savoury sauce was a standout, complemented perfectly by the chicken fat fried rice and vibrant vegetables. The sides, from the delicate greens to the light, fluffy omelette, added depth and variety to the meal, making it feel both comforting and elevated. The atmosphere inside the Edinburgh Castle adds to the charm—warm, intimate lighting and a relaxed yet stylish setting that makes it ideal for both a casual night out or a special occasion. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, which really enhanced the overall dining experience. Bangkok Diner’s Club manages to deliver authentic Thai flavours while giving the dishes a refined edge, and it’s easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Manchester recently. Highly recommended.

Decent pub about 12 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station. Three cask beers on handpump when I visited. Busy after the Spurs game at the Etihad. This former Whitbread pub had been closed for many years but after a major refurbishment reopened as a pub on 14th November 2019 with a restaurant on the first floor. It has been tastefully renovated and as you enter from the corner door there is a long and impressive marble topped bar opposite. There are tables around the bar and high stools at the bar. In the area behind the bar there is more seating. The house beer is brewed by Ringwood and there is also an extensive selection of craft beers, foreign beers, whiskies and gins.

Food from Bangkok Diners Club was very flavourful and delicious. Portions were on the small side for the prices but punchy flavours make up for it.

We celebrated our anniversary here last night. We hadn't been to the Edinburgh Castle before and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and very cosy. We came to dine here because we love head chef Gabe Lea's food who moved here from Maya. Yet again we were blown away by the menu. Locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. All the dishes we had were absolutely delicious and well worth the 2 hours travelling time to dine here. I'm sure Gabe's outstanding dishes, with his attention to detail will get his hard work recognised again soon by being listed in the Michelin guide again. With lots more accolades to follow. Well done team 👏

Visited EC last night after it being on our ‘list’ for a while, it was our anniversary! Food is borderline ‘fine dining’ but rest assured it was delicious! Annoyingly they don’t serve large glasses of wine and the small glasses are expensive! That would be my only complaint I suppose! We had the Oysters, pollen sourdough, sausage, mussels, shared the Guinness pie, had a side of the chips and veg! The only reason a 3 for atmosphere was because it was super quiet in there, suppose weather was glorious and it was only a Wed evening!

Having ate and really enjoyed District, we were so happy to see the opening of Bangkok Diners Club and booked to come for my partners birthday. The food- genuinely lovely, I can't fault the food as a party of 2 we ordered the bass, chicken skewers, sea bream, massam, onions rings and omelette and I would struggle to pick a favourite really similar to the quality food served in District. The service- With a booking at 13.30 on a Saturday if anything the service was a little fast, we had ate and settled up by 14:10. Although our waitress was personable and pleasant she didnt really explain the menu or how the restaurant reccomends ordering. So why 2 stars- We had ordered 2 drinks in the Edinburgh Castle downstairs and brought them up, I asked if this was ok and was told it was fine (no mention of a corkage charge). After leaving I noticed a charge "open drink" of £12.00 on our bill, something I think I would be ok with if mentioned/ highlighted in advance... .although disproportionally expensive in comparison to what we brought up and the price of drinks (we might as well have ordered 2 drinks in the retaurant). There was also a charge for a negroni on the bill for £11.50, this is something we didn't order or drink, in some ways it feels the oldest trick in the book and its almost my fault for not noticing but with an additional service charge of £11.63 (which I had at the time happily paid) on the total bill of £93.00 it seems 25% of the bill was incorrect charges. On balance I dont think we would return despite enjoying the food.

All the dishes I had were amazing. The menu is seasonal , using local produce. Loved the asparagus dish, the tomato salad and the charred aubergine. They also cook proteins to perfection ! I wish every gastro pub would try to serve that top quality food. Reasonable prices. Just go!
