Handy for matchdays: it’s a short walk from Crewe railway station, and the Alexandra Stadium is right by the station, making the pub a convenient pre- and post-game stop. The venue shows sport on TV (including rugby), so fans can catch early kick-offs before heading to the ground. Away supporters have reported using the British Lion for a pre-match pint with a friendly atmosphere, and there’s no indication it’s home-fans-only, so it functions as a neutral meeting spot near transport and the stadium.

Went in here when my football team played Crewe away the other month. Decent atmosphere, and the pints, although served in plastic glasses were really fresh. Would definitely drink in here if I’m ever doing Crewe away again.

Can’t submit another review so here’s a new one with the old one.
Popped in again a year later (Tues 19th December )on my way home to Glasgow for Christmas. Managed to stay for a bit longer this time.
Really is so friendly. I reckon 90% of the clientele greeted me. Guinness great again as was the landlady Tracey as well as the amazing staff Jo and H.
Great wee place with a great vibe. You’d never be a stranger in this little local pub.
Wishing the staff and regulars a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2024. Until next year. Cheers. Gary
I visited this pub last Wednesday morning (21st December) as I had to wait for my connecting train to Scotland. Usually a bit apprehensive walking into a locals pub for the first time.
Can only say I received a very warm welcome especially from the young girl behind the bar. The Guinness was excellent and I was disappointed that I could only stay for the one.
It’s a proper little friendly local and the type of pub I wish I had as a local. I’ll try and have a longer stopover in Crewe next time. Thanks and all the best for 2023.

When I visit Crewe it’s the only pin I use. Love the down to earth atmosphere and especially the open fire. Minimum charge on card is a pain but not in any way a deterrent. Just love the place
