Why is The Bricklayers good for fans?

The Bricklayers sits by Colchester North station, making it an easy first/last stop for match-going fans arriving by rail. Away-day guides explicitly include it among pubs for visiting supporters. Inside, the saloon bar has two large TVs and the pub advertises Sky & BT/TNT Sports, so you can catch early kick-offs or post-match highlights. Food is served at set times (midday into the evening), useful for pre-match meals. Altogether, its station-side location, away-fan inclusion, live-sport screens and food service make it a practical, football-friendly choice on Colchester United matchdays.

Amazing pub with plenty of space and really acceptable prices.

Under new management and refurbished. Smart, modern feel to the place, with that vintage kind of pub vibe. Still has a good selection of lagers and real ales. Staff have been friendly and inviting, as they always were. Serves food now throughout the day. Just tucked into salt and pepper squid and a bacon burger myself and was really pleased I did. Limited menu, but that should help keep it simple and good. As a commuter and a local I'm really pleased that I can now have a pub meal on the way home, along with a decent pint (or two). Still manages to keep that pub feeling even with serving food. Still a drinkers pub at its heart. Looking forward to my next visit.

This was the worst pub food I've ever had. It took 45 minutes to arrive and when it did.... disappointed doesn't cover it. I ordered a Margarita pizza. What arrived bore resemblance to any kind of pizza. No mozzarella or garlic or seasoning. Just some soapy tasteless cheddar melted on some poor quality doh. We didn't send it back as we had waited so long we needed to hit the road. My companions burger was barely edible but it did at least resemble a burger. Highly unrecommended.

My local for three years. Although I travel in to town for beers. I long for them to sell a more contemporary hazy pale. Get a Burnt Mill tap on or some cans in the fridge. Then mebbe I can come down and watch the footy.

Great selection of drinks and food. Looks very nice in here with a small beer garden and undercover smoking area. Didn't eat this time but I definitely will next time.

Went with my local walking group, six of us in total, 3 cask ales on, all in good condition, doom bar and two from Colchester brewery, first time here but pub was very comfortable, staff polite, we had to wait for one of the barrels to be changed but there where no dramas, overall a lovely local pub tucked away off the main road near the train station.

Just visited for first time and it seems very nice, friendly staff and it's mostly clean and tidy. Couple of things that lost the fifth star was the price of steak pie with a few peas and a bit of mash was in my opinion slightly too expensive for amount of food. Second issue was the table I sat at had quite a few peanuts on floor that hadn't been cleaned up which is a shame as it spoilt the overall impression.
