23 Black Horse Ln, Ipswich, IP1 2EF, United Kingdom
Why is The Black Horse Inn good for fans?
On matchdays The Black Horse bills itself as the closest pub to Portman Road and runs four bars for quick service, serving drinks in glass rather than plastic—useful for busy home fixtures. It’s only a short walk to the stadium and is highlighted locally as a convenient spot for pre- or post-match drinks. If you’re not going into the ground, it’s also listed among Ipswich pubs that show football on TV, so you can still catch the action nearby.

Came here for a few beers pre Ed Sheeran. It was hot as hell and busy but the amazing staff kept smiling and gave a fantastic service. Fair play to the team there 😊

We had our wedding reception here. They were absolutely outstanding. They did all the decorating exactly to specification. They accommodated requests such as an outdoor milkshake bar. They thought on their feet and worked around possible hiccups.
If you want a relaxed neurodivegency friendly wedding reception, this is the perfect place particularly with the great parking and being so close to the town hall. It was also fantastic value for money.
I couldn't recommend it enough. Thank you so much for such a perfect day

Lovely old historical pub and reputedly the birthplace of Henry VIII's Chancellor Thomas Wolsey.
Good place to meet friends.
Went for live music event but not the ideal venue in the bar as the low ceiling and loud speakers, combined with the light show made it difficult to see the artist and listen without making my eardrums explode!
No food served so eat before you go.
Need more than one overworked bar staff and the ?landlady taking 10 minutes to go slice a lemon!

I Enjoy music gigs in The Blackhorse, they have changed hands, new management better set up, got a Marquee for outdoor social distancing entertainment bar staff do well despite Covid restrictions, booking table system in place, tables of 6 or 2 👍 can still enjoy main pub not just outside

Good place for a few pints before a football match.
Though game days are crowded, it's a lively pub where the Ipswich fans are likely to show their generosity with a pint...or 5.
Good service, friendly folks.
Good time

Popped in as had half an hour to kill before I had to pick up my son from a class and it looked cosy. I thought I’d travelled back in time when I was charged £1.35 for a half a pint of the guest ale. In 2024! Not often you’re surprised by how cheap something is these days! Lovely old school atmosphere and friendly staff too.
