Surprisingly good food given exterior appearance. Also exceedingly friendly and proactive staff who use their brains, unlike many others. You would be amazed!
Simple fare bit recommended highly. Also a great selection of beers to boot!

My friends and I enjoyed our visit to this pub. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and let us sample a few ales so we could decide what we liked to order ( my personal favorite was Otter ale). The food choices were pretty solid, and i quite enjoyed their duck leg confit, which was very delicious.
I can definitely recommend this historic pub. Apparently, Sir Francis Drake liked it too.

One of the true highlights of this place is the Duck Hash — an absolute must-try. At first glance, it seems like a simple dish paired with a vibrant red sauce, but one bite in and you’ll be completely captivated. The flavors are unexpectedly rich and perfectly balanced, making it a memorable experience that lingers long after the meal. This hidden gem truly knows how to elevate comfort food into something extraordinary.

The Ship Inn is a beautiful and very old pub in Exeter; the pub's atmosphere and exposed centuries-old wooden beams make dining here a really unique experience; however the portion sizes are on the small size compared to other pubs.

This was a fantastic pub for drinking, maintaining its vintage Tudor aesthetic! This is done through the ceilings as well as the imagery carried across the walls, counter feels like a glimpse back in time too. I had a fresh pint of Guinness at comfortable seating, right by the fireplace too!

Enjoyed some great Guinness here. Staff were friendly, a really nice pub with some great history behind it. We were sat upstairs very cosy and comfortable seating. Later on we ventured downstairs and enjoyed the live music. A good night and worth a visit

Great beer, including cask ales, great food, and good vibes and feel to the place. Best pub in Exeter city centre by some margin.
