Friendly enough pub. Could do with a clean up outside. Dog friendly. Odd that staff can bring in McDonald's and inflict those smells on others.

We love this pub. We go in every time we are in Oldham. Last time we were there we got a parking fine for using the car park at the back which we always use. This was a new system which we didn't know about. We will be going back!! Having spoken to Christine, the landlady the fine was cancelled. I now understand the reason for change and the set up is such that in order to use the car park, you need to go into the pub and put your number in the system. If you don't want a drink you can pay £5.00 for four hours parking. If you do have a drink it's free.

What a welcoming pub. A group of us visited after the Oldham vs Woking game on Tuesday night. We were away fans, but made to feel at home straight away! Christine & Jess looked after us so well and we were even bought a round of drinks from one of the locals. We will definitely recommend The Rifle Range and be sure to visit for longer next time. Thanks all!

Wife lived round there when a kid, we stayed nearby and went have a look and a drink. We'll kept beer, and seating outside , . A lot has changed in the area, there's a plague inside with her dad's name on.

Drink here roughly every 2 weeks, and put quite a few £'s over the bar each time given that we are not day-to-day customers. However, we have been drinking here far longer than the current landlord / landlady!
Bit of a dilemma. Ordered a drink, paid for drinks, drink wrong. New bar tender, didn't know how to serve drink. Easy mistake when knew to role.
Point out drink is wrong to landlord / lady. Eventually they acknowledge drink is incorrect or has been served incorrectly. Although they did try bull.....ing. Asked for tonic, got soda water, very distinctive taste difference.....
My experience in other establishments is that they acknowledge the mistakes, apologies and then give you the drink you actually ordered and paid for.
Contrast. In the Rifle Range, you were expected to cover there mistakes and pick up the additional cost of the drink ordered. We are not talking bottles of fine wine here, but gin and tonics......
Again, my experience is that this wouldn't normally be the case, but the landlord / lady felt otherwise and even allowed a third-party to comment unnecessarily which only added to the arguement. In any other situation, this might even have inflamed the situation, so recommend third party to abstain from saying anything and allow landlord / lady to deal with, which the landlord / landlady should have said themselves, but didn't. Weak management on there part in my opinion....
Reality is, new staff make mistakes. It happens, therefore acknowledge this, deliver what was ordered and chalk it off as a learning curve. Don't expect customers to then bend over on every mistakes, especially when they are putting money over the bar and they have been clear in what they have ordered. It's the establishments responsibility to train staff, not the customers and make sure service delivery is at its highest. Well, I assume that's Lee's brewerys aspiration?
It was a nothing problem. However, when seasoned staff; landlord / land lady can't acknowledge mistakes in a meaningful way then the atmosphere becomes tense. A bit of soft touch diplomacy would have gone a long way rather than our mistake, you pay. E.g. 'I'm so sorry for the mistake, wrong mixer added. I can correct it, but would you mind paying the additional cost'?
Probable response.....'of course'.
Needless to say will not be returning until new management appointed, which shouldn't ..............hopefully.
Such a shame. Right people, right clientele. Wrong management, unprofitable pub.
