Why is Local Hero good for fans?

Local Hero is a large sports-focused pub a short walk from Leicester City’s King Power Stadium (and the Tigers’ ground), making it a convenient pre- or post-match meet spot. The venue explicitly promotes live football with Sky Sports and TNT Sports and lets you book for specific fixtures, so you can guarantee a view of the big screens on matchdays. WhatPub also lists “Sports TV” and notes the site’s proximity to both grounds, plus on-site parking (register inside) and nearby bus routes—handy logistics for getting to and from the game. Recent guides highlight Local Hero as a primary home-fan pub, and the pub has been a known gathering point for Leicester supporters on big occasions.

Note - Offered complimentary dessert - refused. Offered complimentary drinks - refused. I did get partial refund but not ALL the food. Took my sister for a meal on a slow Monday afternoon. Ordered beef lasagne and when it arrived it wasn't hot but not cold. Sadly the burnt toast with garlic [identifying as garlic bread] should never have left the kitchen. Also my sister's chips had been left under the warmer for the approx hour it took to serve the meals {probably the delay was caused by the necessity of slaughtering the beef and catching the fish prior to cooking....maybe?}. If you check my previous reviews where service & quality are excellent they get the recognition and therefore where service or quality fails should it not receive it's criticism? Would I return to eat - no. No criticism on bar/waiting staff they were understanding and pleasant BUT that food should never have left the kitchen.

It may possibly be the worst meal I have ever had the pleasure of paying for- the issue is you pay for it on the app so it’s all too late once you are served - bullets for peas, gristle and fat in the rib eye, frozen chips that taste like frozen chips, overcooked eggs that I asked to be replaced - got replaced with overcooked again even after I explained I needed the yolk to be liquid… and as for the £3 ish for the additional mac and cheese - it was so solidified I was unable to chew it and swallow. The pub has a nice atmosphere so would be nice for drinks. Lesson learned!!

me and family normally love going here for steak however today was meh. we had the sirloin steak and it had a weird blood smell? like it had been left out for a while, however when we brought up the issue they gladly offered to make it again, the next one was better but still okay. the peas were also quite dry. still enjoyed though just a bit loud for my liking

I recently had the pleasure of being assisted by Donna, and I must say, her professionalism and politeness were outstanding! From the moment I approached her, she was attentive and eager to help. Donna's knowledge and efficiency and wanting to talk made my experience smooth and enjoyable. It's rare to encounter someone so dedicated to providing excellent service. She truly went above and beyond, and I left feeling valued and impressed. Thank you, Donna, for your exceptional service! Food was also to standard.

The staff were very helpful with ordering food, very friendly and as someone with food intolerances very helpful in helping me make suitable choices. Food was cooked perfectly and delicious

Food: The chefs need to work on their timing and some basics when it comes to skillet plates (wet onions on a hot plate whilst the steak is sizzling leads to water sitting on the skillet, the steak then is essentially boiling removing flavour from the meat) fix the basics and this becomes a non issue. Service: Excellent, the ladies in here work their ass off and still manage to keep a smile and be very helpful & attentive. Absolutely faultless. Atmosphere: Bit rowdy and some of the patrons here can be quite obnoxious, but that's not a slight on the staff or bar. They probably should keep them in check better.

4 of us came in to just have a few drinks before cinema and some of us are from different countries so we don’t carry a passport. When ask to provide a form of identification we handed out our national id cards and were refused service because only passports and driver’s licenses are accepted. As the law cites, “any proof of age cards bearing the PASS hologram“ should be accepted. The employees either have no idea about their own laws, or were being ignorant on purpose… The place was empty. We left and went to Nando’s next door for 4 lovely drinks. Edit: Since I can’t reply to your response, I’ll just say it like this. We all had our cards with us and we all wanted to show a valid identification card. When the first one was showed, the employees just refused them because they were not passports or driver’s licenses. Not everyone walks around with a passport. Not everyone has a drivers licence. Not everyone is from this country. The fact that they’re also lying about it just makes us sure it was on purpose.

I recently visited Local Hero with three friends, hoping for a relaxed evening out. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but welcoming. Two of my friends presented valid EU national ID cards—official documents with holograms that are fully acceptable forms of identification under UK law, as confirmed by government guidelines and which is stated on Greene kings website. However, the bartender refused to serve them, insisting that only driving licences or passports were acceptable. This is simply incorrect and suggests a worrying lack of understanding of the Challenge 25 policy and the legal standards for ID verification. The staff were blunt, dismissive, and noticeably unwelcoming throughout our brief time there. Despite the pub being nearly empty, we were made to feel like a burden rather than valued customers. The whole situation left us feeling targeted and deeply uncomfortable. It was embarrassing to witness staff enforcing incorrect policies and handling the situation so poorly. It felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a deliberate attempt to exclude—something that raises serious questions about their approach to customer service and equality. I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and concerned. A bit of training on legal ID requirements and basic hospitality would go a long way for the staff at Local Hero. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on our experience. If i could give this place 0 star review I would.
