A central Wind Street pub that leans into matchdays: The Griffin advertises live football with Sky Sports and TNT Sports on three giant screens plus multiple HD TVs, so you won’t miss a kick. You can pre-book for fixtures and check listings, and there’s food served through the day—useful for pre-match fuel or half-time bites—via its published menus and serving times. Fan-oriented copy on the live-sport page explicitly says everyone is welcome for live sport, reinforcing it as a neutral meeting spot on game days.
Well what can you say the food portion was awful could’ve gone to McDonald’s and had more for the price you pay, the staff were not helpful what so ever all stood around talking and not to mention forgetting we had even ordered food. I don’t recommend unless you want to leave hungrier than you came in, my girlfriend pacifically said she cannot have the sauces in the burger due to allergies and the burger was full of it. And the pint of carlsberg was the end of the barrel didn’t taste nice what so ever. One of the workers were judging us and I don’t know if that’s because we’re a same sex couple but it just felt uncomfortable so to sum it up not very nice staff seem like they don’t want to be there and well food looks like it’ll give me the runs.
Been here quite a few times for food but the latest was not great at all. Ordered BBQ chicken wings as a started which were actually brought out AFTER the mains and were dry with cheap tangy BBQ sauce drizzled on top with a few chopped spring onions . The main build your own chicken burger was dry and over cooked with the bin being dry and breaking apart too with the onions ring also overcooked and tasted of oil more than anything. Chef needs to do better or get replaced because it's the worst yet.
I can't fault The Griffin. The two girls serving today were really good. The prices are also very good. Really nice to see a Victorian building being looked after.
What a fantastic grand pub/restaurant. As you walk in you are greeted with the most friendliest staff , big smiles and cheeky banter. Came in the other day to have some lunch… the place was so beautiful and the staff were really friendly and the food was so delicious definitely be going there again and bringing my whole family next time.. I would highly recommend the griffin to anyone
Went there on a sunday just after opening and it was really quiet in there so no real excuse for a sticky bar, sticky floors, sticky table and not even any soap dispensers in the toilets let alone soap, beer and prices were OK, didn't have food as the pub wasn't the cleanest tbh.
