About this Pub

Duke of Wellington
Set in Southampton’s Old Town and a 5-minute walk from the harbour, the Duke of Wellington is a handy city-centre stop before or after a match. It serves meals at lunchtime and in the evening (including Sundays), which is useful for pre-kick-off or post-game food. CAMRA/WhatPub list regular Wadworth cask ales (6X, Henry’s IPA, Horizon, Swordfish), so there’s reliable beer on tap. The venue is also close to multiple bus routes, helping supporters move around the city on matchdays.

Duke of Wellington in Southampton is your quintessential old-school neighborhood pub that has survived through the ages - cozy ambiance, historical furnishings, and that classic British charm. I started with a half pint of Folly Road lager (recommended by the server), which was refreshing, light, and super easy to sip. Then came the fish & chips, and honestly it was one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The portions were wildly generous, and the fish was perfectly golden-fried with crispness that creates a loud crunch as you bite into it. The plump fish was tender, flaky and moist. The dish comes with mushy peas too. I appreciated that they set you up with salt, pepper, and malt vinegar so you can season everything to your taste, and you can request tartar sauce that’s light, creamy, and great for dipping. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole visit feel warm and effortless.

Fantastic historic building with delicious modern food. Order the pork belly bites, you will NOT be disappointed. Servers and owners were very welcoming; had great recommendations for local beers.

Nice traditional pub located in Southampton went on a sunday and i had the chicken duke burger which was very nice. The others I went with had the beef duke burger, chicken roast, beef roast and a gluten free roast. The gluten free roast was identical to the others except for the fact it didnt have the yorkshire pudding. We all had sticky toffee pudding and custard for tea which was gluten free completely forgot to take a photo of this though. Nice place and would go back again very traditional pub and pub food.

On arrival I was greeted and welcomed to the pub, I got table service and sat down and a friendly young girl came and took my order, returned with my perfectly poured and tasty Guinness while I waited for the most incredible roast dinner ever! Such a wonderful meal with all the trimmings. Full marks for attentiveness, service and overall brilliant experience. I'll definitely be bringing my friends back for more. Thank you A+++

Friendly local pub with great food. Perfect spot to recover after flying across the pond. The bacon brie and cranberry sandwich was most excellent for just 10 pounds.
