Handy for matchdays: it’s city-centre (33 Bedford Place) and close to transport — WhatPub lists Southampton Central station at about 950m and multiple bus routes. The bar is regularly suggested by local fans as a place that takes away supporters, making it a practical pre-match stop before heading to St Mary’s. It specialises in rotating craft lines (multiple keg taps and changing beers), with recent pours from well-known UK breweries shown on Untappd, so groups can expect variety. Crucially, they make food straightforward on game days: the venue explicitly allows food to be brought in or delivered, and their site provides partner ordering pages (e.g., Gyros Guys deliver to your table), which helps larger groups eat without a long sit-down. Put together, it’s a convenient, away-fan-friendly, beer-focused base before the walk or ride to the ground.
Very nice little place. Took the dog with us on a Saturday lunch time. If you like specials beers and ciders you will live this place. Food was really good to and a good price. Would be more than happy to recommend and come back when next passing. Saw this on Tiktok. The power of social media
A hidden gem in Southampton! Beards & Boards may be a small shop, but it's packed with an impressive variety of craft beers to suit every taste. The cosy vibe inside is matched by the unique outdoor seating—chairs and tables right by the roadside—that adds a chilled, continental-style feel to the experience. Perfect for a relaxed evening with friends or trying something new. Definitely worth a visit if you're into quality craft beer! 🍻
The transition of Beards & Boards to the Dirty Barrel has been incredible. I was sceptical of the change because I already loved it so much, but it turns out that Matt (the manager) is the heart and soul of the establishment, and they could serve beer out of a literal dirty barrel if he was the one doing it. The food is fantastic (particularly the vegan options) and Toby, Joe and John are pretty great, too! If you like craft beer, great food, and lovely people then you should be there.
Matt and the staff are always brilliant lots of banter make you feel at home. I probably spend equal amounts of time in my house to here. Lovely customers tasty food and lovely craft beer selection. I also recommend the quiz and run.
Spent a few hours in here. Lovely friendly service and a great choice of beers. Well worth a visit and I'll definitely will be paying another visit the next time I am in Southampton.
