Defectors Weld

📍 0.5 miles from MATRADE Loftus Road

About this Pub

Defectors Weld
On Uxbridge Road by Shepherd’s Bush Market/Shepherd’s Bush stations, it’s an easy pre- or post-match meet for QPR games. A long-running QPR fan guide notes it’s popular on matchdays, and the pub promotes tournament football (e.g., every game of the Euros) on its screens, so you can catch build-up or earlier kick-offs before heading to the ground. WhatPub also flags sports TV/projector use. In short: close to transport for Loftus Road and a known matchday gathering point with football shown on TV.

I dined here with a group of theatre scholars last November before a matinee at the Bush theatre. There were 18 of us and we were seated at the long row of tables in the first picture on the first floor. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Defector’s Weld. The manager and staff were a dream to work with. Prices are fair and food and drink are of high quality. The interior and exterior are just lovely- very cosy yet chic. It was a chilly October day and they were kind enough to light the fireplace for us. The food is definitely more of an elevated pub experience. Pictured here are the burrata caprese salad and fish and chips. We also had several food restrictions in the group which were easily accommodated. It was lunch on a Sunday afternoon so I cannot speak to noise levels on the weekend but we had no issues. It’s a very easy 8 or so minute walk to the Bush Theatre and Shepherd’s Bush Market and Defector’s Weld is perfect for a pre or post show lunch or dinner or drinks. We were tourists (US) but everyone else there seemed to be local- always a good sign. It was such a hit we’ll be returning in March. Great choice in general but definitely for groups. Highly recommend!!

Ordered a chip shop sausage and curry plus a side order of chips. Thank goodness I have the chips. There were 2 sausages that had not been browned off swimming in curry. This has no resemblance to any chip shop I have been too. Service was fine and friendly but food was shocking On the plus side as a woman dinning alone was left in peace

Good Sunday roasts. Very busy location on a corner near Westfield, so a lot of footfall from tourists and shoppers. Underwent extensive renovations fairly recently so is looking in good shape. Probably preferable to the place across the road which has a bit more of a sports bar type of focus. Often very busy; other places are likely to be quieter.

Been here before for food and drinks - really good. But came here a few weeks ago for dinner - ordered the chicken burger and the fried chicken was wafer thin and mainly batter (see pic). The wait staff wouldn’t know but how the chef & kitchen served that with a clear conscience is beyond me. Would have complained but the staff never came back to our table. The cheese burger was good though. Very disappointed with kitchen for sending out something that poor quality.

Lovely pub, great outside area and atmosphere. When we first arrived we were served by two lovely gentleman after we went to get our second drink I hadn’t noticed but my wine had corked and as I noticed I went to the bar to promptly notify the bar staff. The lady with the pony tale was lovely but the other lady who seemed new to the job wouldn’t even look at the glass and was unwilling to accommodate or even at the least apologise for the dodgy wine. She then went on to look for the manager and when she couldn’t find them proceeded to ignore me the rest of the time I was at the bar even when I politely tried to ask for help she was increasingly annoyed and rude to me. Bear in mind this was only the house red and not a glass of one of there more expensive wines. Working in customer service myself I found this response frankly quite baffling. For me it wasn’t about the money but about the principle.
