A classic Pompey local that’s busy on Portsmouth FC home matchdays, with multiple TVs and big screens showing sport—handy for early kick-offs. It’s walkable from Fratton Station (about 0.8 miles), making it a straightforward pre- or post-match stop. The pub’s Portsmouth FC memorabilia and home-crowd vibe make it a natural gathering spot for home supporters, with cask staples like Doom Bar on the pumps.
This is a friendly local pub, it is very unlikely a tourist will find it. it serves lots of different beers, sprits and soft drinks, you can play pool or darts, they also sell a selection of crisps and snacks. on certain days there are also raffles and a duke box for entertainment
Visited prior to attending a Portsmouth Football match. Good atmosphere. Did not feel threatening or unsafe. Lots of big screens showing the earlier matches. Actually ate at a different pub then came here as they don't do hot food. Would visit again.
Average pub, no ale, not great but not bad
My favourite pub in all Portsmouth great atmosphere brilliant staff. The locals are so welcoming prices not to bad love the carling in there will be going with the wife Christmas day for a few drinks.
Have been going to the Meon for many years and have seen it change hands many times over those years, but the current landlord and staff are by far the best yet! Always a warm welcome and a great atmosphere and a friendly face behind the bar. All made to feel welcome regardless which team you support on match days. I will continue to call The Meon my local for many years to come.
