Had a great time at the Good Companion Pub on New Year’s Eve. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, making it a perfect place to celebrate. The live music really stood out. The female singer was fantastic and added so much to the evening. A really enjoyable night overall, would happily visit again
Arsenal fan here...attended at 10am this morning for the FA Cup fixture. We were first through the door and just wanted to say the staff were outstanding! The bar was run like a military operation, super fast service and coped brilliantly with a packed crowd! All members of staff were attentative and welcoming and I hope they are rewarded appropriately! Thanks 👏
We stopped here for lunch as my husband and I were driving around Portsmouth on a memory lane trip and his mother used to work there back in the 50s and he spent a lot of time there as a child. He was very fond of the place and we were very impressed with the staff and the food, we had steak and it was delicious perfectly cooked and so tender. The atmosphere was amazing as all the Christmas lights and decorations were up . Great car park too .
Update: This used to be my favourite place to have a night out. Sadly in the past half the year the food quality and also the quantity went sideways a lot and prices went sky high. You can check my photos uploaded here to see the 1st and the last meal we had. There are massive differences in between these. 😑😑😑 Delicious food, great staff and really friendly environment 😊🥂🍔 Will definitely be back and recommend to others 😋
We had a Christmas meal at The Good Companion yesterday.I had the king prawn cocktail which just had mayo instead of Marie rose sauce which was disappointing, then I had Christmas Dinner which could have been a lot hotter, the pig in blanket was not cooked properly & no broccoli on plate, roast potatoes looked anaemic. The dessert I had was the berry sundae which thankfully was delicious, so one course out of three wasn't great.Music was far too loud & had to ask them to turn it down, so overall not a good experience.
