Little disappointing as first time visitor with a few friends. Not much effort on creating a Xmas vibe. No food either on a Saturday afternoon. House beer is nice. Dog friendly pub. Some free parking available at the back.
The Fat Cat & Canary is an absolute gem of a pub—quirky, unpretentious, and full of personality. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed and welcoming, with a unique, slightly eclectic decor that sets it apart from your standard chain pub. The beer selection is exceptional, featuring a rotating lineup of well-kept real ales, craft beers, and ciders. There's no frilly gastropub food here—just quality crisps, pork pies, and pickled eggs, as it should be. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their beers. Perfect for a quiet pint, a catch-up with friends, or simply soaking up the laid-back, authentic pub atmosphere. A true local treasure.
This a fantastic real ale pub (other alcoholic beverages are available 😉). It's been a great pub for ages, and I expect it will remain so for a long time. Wednesday they have Tiago's pizza van outside (you can bring your pizza into the pub silly, don't sit outside in the cold).
Cannot rate the Canary Kitchen Sunday roasts highly enough! The food was delicious with huge portions (pictures don’t do it justice!). We tried all the meat options between us - everything was cooked to perfection and we couldn’t decide which one was best! Managed to squeeze in the chocolate brownie after as well which was amazing. The service was super friendly and efficient, nothing was too much for them and they were super attentive. Will definitely be going back again and again over the roast season!
It’s a walk from the station, but well worth the walk. Five real ales. Some from fat cat brewery but others to. On a matchday it gets too busy. Not able to get to the bar. Unless you arrive say three hours before kick off.
