Skehans has such a great atmosphere and aesthetic, it’s easy to see why it’s been named best pub in London! The staff were all so so lovely as well. We visited end of November and they were doing mulled wine with a free homemade gingerbread cookie which I loved. We also ordered food from Tava Rakh which was doing a plant based Indian menu, this was absolutely amazing! Super looking forward to visiting again.
Skehans is a famous Irish pub. It topped Time Out's 2023 "Best Pubs in London" list, being voted "London's No. 1 Bar." Their Guinness is guaranteed to be authentic and flawless. But I've quit drinking. This pub is part of a joint venture with the Thai restaurant next door, so you can enjoy authentic, home-style Thai cuisine right there. The fried noodles were delicious, and the steak was even better than I expected—high-quality meat, though the tom yum gong was a bit too salty. It's very lively and down-to-earth. I love the lively yet relaxed atmosphere; you can just chat with anyone you meet.
Great pub! Pub quiz on a Tuesday is also good but does get bloody packed! Ads to the atmosphere I guess but only issue is the £10 minimum spend on card, kinda annoying but one of my fave places
Nice place to spend Saturday! Nice and relaxed atmosphere, had some amazing Indian food which they have on Saturday afternoons by local chef from Tava Rakh. A few pints of Guinness with friends by the fire, can’t get much better than that..
Hate, hate, HAAATE to be this person but unfortunately I have to be. I can't stand bad service any more than I can't stand in heels. A pub based in nunhead charging a stupid minimum £10 on card (basically a massive middle finger to anyone who isn't a raging alcoholic). The bar staff are few and far between in terms of being nice, they honestly would rather serve the wall than be nice to you and its actually quite ridiculous considering they want you to spend a fortune before you can tap your Google wallet. I had more genuinely nice interactions with the security guards than I did with any of the staff who worked there. I had incredibly high hopes for the food but honestly, I should've just lowered my expectations to hell because I basically filed my teeth on the calamari and in regards to the steak? I might as well have cut brick with the bloody butter knife they gave me, it would've probably done more with said brick than the cardboard cheap meat they served me. The only reason I gave this place a chance despite hearing awful stories from family and friends who have been there, was for the aesthetic and the vibes. Unfortunately, I can't rip into them about the visual aesthetic and the live entertainment. That is good. I have to say. I also think the security guards are sweet and do a decent job of being friendly while ensuring the safety of the establishment. If only good security and decorations could make this a good pub. Save your 10 quid in cash and go to the Pyrotechnists or the Nuns Head. ✌️
