Absolutely lovely place to have a chat and a drink. Amazing decor and food. Special thanks to Mr. Seb, Ms. Kerry and Mr. Romaine, and the great and friendly Chef Mr. Christian and Ms. Juden, who were spectacular preparing the food in the kitchen. Happy hour from Monday to Friday, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Did something die in the toilets? Maybe it was the chef? The toilets smell horrific to the point of being unusable. This makes me doubtful about the hygiene standards of the establishment. If your toilet smells like there is a corpse under the floor I don’t suppose you are too bothered about how clean the kitchen is. Which brings me on to the food. Chaotic and disappointing are words that immediately spring to mind. It was a very simple order 5 roast dinners and 2 burgers (as there was no salad - why offer a salad if you don’t have the ingredients?! Was the vegetable shop shut?!) We ordered our food at the same time and requested that it all comes together pretty easy yes? No, no it wasn’t. The person in charge of the kitchen seemed very stressed and had to be frequently reminded of our order my friend had to go to the bar twice to ask where her dinner was and explain again what she had ordered. Our food arrived in lengthy intervals and was very disappointing. I wish I hadn’t bothered. The bar staff are lovely and looked embarrassed. The beer selection is very good. Just don’t order food or use the toilets and you’ll be fine.

🚇New Cross 🍺 £5.70 Pravha The Royal Albert is located on the border of New Cross and Deptford in south-east London. The nearest station is New Cross. This pub was first licensed in 1848 and is Grade II listed. The pub was known as The Paradise Bar around 2000. By 2005, it was called Six Strings, before eventually returning to its original name. Today, the pub is run by @portobellobrewing This is a largish, one-bar pub that is set out in an L shape. The servery is located on your left as you enter and has a beautiful back bar with 7” vinyl records along the top. If you head back to the right of the bar area, you’ll find an open kitchen with a comfortable dining area. In front and to the left is a more open-plan space, with a snuggish area tucked behind. The decor is mainly traditional, with some contemporary touches. There is a boarded floor, the walls are painted in both bold and muted colours, there is a variety of seating, and everything feels easy on the eye. Outside the pub are some benches and parasols, along with some Victorian tileage around one of the old entrances. The beer selection was excellent and offered a range of familiar favourites, local independent brews, and cask ales, including Portobello’s own brewed beers. I kept it simple and went for a Pravha; my pint hit the spot, price point was reasonable. The food menu has a range of tasty burgers plus a few pub classics. Fish and chips cost £17.50, and roasts are available on Sundays. We arrived at 1pm on a chilly Saturday lunchtime in December. The pub was fairly busy, with a good mix of punters — some in for a spot of lunch, others here for the beer. The atmosphere was relaxed, making it easy to settle in. The service was fantastic; the chap on duty was warm, welcoming, and friendly. The pub hosts Jazz evenings every Sunday. Visiting The Royal Albert was a solid all round pub experience. Nice surroundings, reasonably priced pints, the food smelt amazing and we were well looked after. We really enjoyed our time here, I must comeback to try out a burger. Oh my the Roast here is so good you will eat to bloatation, which is easily done because the portions are very generous. The service is excellent and the beer is kept well with a good selection of real ales and decent alcohol free options. This is one of the genuinely good pubs you won’t be disappointed.

Two Canadians just arriving in London and decided to try out this local to us restaurant. First off…our server, Seb was outstanding. He helped us make beer selections and offered tastings of their popular and seasonal brews. His attentive service made our terrific meal even better (one of the top burgers for me). Would highly recommend!
