📍 0.8 miles from Riverside Stadium
Close to Middlesbrough railway station (around 100m) and an easy walk to the Riverside, The Isaac Wilson is a large, town-centre pub that welcomes away supporters. It opens early with food served through the day, making it a practical pre-match meet spot. Sources also note sports TVs with live sport shown, which helps fans keep up with other games before heading to the stadium. With numerous changing cask beers logged by drinkers, it’s a popular choice for a reasonably priced pint en route to the ground.
The Isaac used to be our go to place on a Sunday, menu selection was good, reasonably priced with good portion sizes. This visit changed all that, the menu has been massively reduced - almost no vegan options at all (unless you want a jacket potato) and prices have been raised a little too much. Also seemed to be out of stock of slot of items Not sure if Isaac were too slow in adjusting their prices or if it's new management, but it certainly wasn't a patch on what it used to be. Of the 4 orders placed, 2 were correct and served within half an hour, two took over half an hour and one was the wrong thing. All in all, won't be back and wouldn't recommend
I've been going to Issacs since I was a teenager, it was a perfect spot, not too loud, reliable quality of food and affordable prices. Since the new management and menu change it's gone down hill, today I ordered the parmo which no longer game with a drink like it used to, the parmo was so thin it was impossible to cut and with a drink ontop, that was just a pint of lemonade it came to a whopping £16 after I added onions and mushrooms ontop, which should've only been 50p each but I was charged double. They've also removed any vegan options, they had a plant based burger, now they only have a veggie burger which isn't vegan and I could not find any other types on the menu. The prices have all been raised by about £2, but the food has gone downhill and the atmosphere was all off. Issacs used to be a staple for affordable filling meals and a relatively normal clientele. It is now filled with football hooligans, overpriced food and drink. This place used to be a perfect establishment for young people and especially with the closeness to the local metal and rock clubs, it was filled with lovely welcoming staff and clientele. The staff were okay, it seems none of the original staff which made Issacs so great are there anymore and everytime I've been I've not seen the same staff. I used to go regularly now I won't be. I feel sorry for the staff as they said themselves they were unprepared and barely knew the menu. We had many times the waitress bring food to our table and it wasn't ours. RIP Issacs.
A bit quieter than expected tonight for a Tuesday. Enjoyed the cheaper ales John Smith’s at £2.60 and ordered what came as a nice plate of chunky chips with a side of coleslaw. Menu has changed a bit making it simpler, but the best thing is the availability of the refillable coffee, tea and hot chocolate unlike Wetherspoons! Will be back again..😂
Used to come here a lot for decent cheap food, but it's an absolute joke now. I'm assuming a change in ownership or management; but, the food has gone up drastically in price, portions have been cut down and the selection has become almost non-existent (and even then half of it was out of stock). Top that all off with waiting over 30 minutes extra for half the table's food orders that were forgotten and wrong when they finally arrived. Seems like all the old staff are gone and the new ones are barely trained. Second and and unfortunately final visit since the change - will not be back and wouldn't recommend anyone else risk it.
Can't really blame the pub for the reduced and very limited menu here now. The pub is on the decline like many others. Half the menu items that were on there were not in stock. The pub itself is nice, clean and warm. The pints to the good standard you would always expect from Spoons. Staff friendly and very helpful.
