A strong pre-/post-match option in central Middlesbrough: The Discovery explicitly advertises live sport (including football) on big HD screens and states it shows Sky and BT/TNT Sports, so televised fixtures are on. Food is served daily with long kitchen hours (typically 9am–9pm), useful for early kick-offs or evening midweek games. It’s also well placed for matchday travel—CAMRA’s WhatPub notes it’s just along from the bus station and around a five-minute walk from Middlesbrough railway station—making it easy to meet up before heading to the Riverside or to watch games there if you’re not going to the ground.
Staff only seem bothered about serving their mates. Let other people jump in front and don't even question it. I'd understand if it was busy but it wasn't. There was me and another at the bar. 4 extra people got served before I just walked out. Ive been before on my own and had no problem.
Staff Personable, Pub has Downstairs Bar and Upstairs Room, TV's to both.Good Menu Varied Menu, and Good Beers. Pub on Main Street outside of Shopping Arcade, approx Twenty minutes walk to Football Ground. Home and Away Fans together in Pub.
We stopped there for lunch today. Ordered fish and chips and a Parmo. The chips were nearly burnt black. There was some kind of newspaper under the fish and chips it went soft and stuck to the fish I had to scrape it all off and the mushy was were cold. Hubbys paramo was ok but his chips were really black also. Will never go there again.
Handy for the buses, and always good value. With the closure of the spoons that used to be on captain cook square I now normally find this is the place I go if I have to while away a connection or if my phone/ticket is playing up for a bit and I have to wait for it to charge. Sound place to sit and sip...
Visited these guys to watch the rugby whilst in town to see a band. Cool staff, decent bar prices, and a number of large TVs available displaying different sporting events. The absolute best bit was a couple of customers noticed we were searching for some seats with a good view of the TV, and he gave us their table as they were about to leave - how generous was that... Didn't eat here as the menu was rather generic and there wasn't any vegan offerings that I fancied. Overall a good spot with decent prices.
