My husband Anadi and I had a fabulous evening! We live in London, but we enjoy discovering other parts of the city, and staying away for a night - a mini mini break! We stayed in Blackheath to enjoy running on the Heath and in Greenwich Park - and to have a meal out in 'The Princess of Wales'. We were really well looked after by Christina, who was helpful and friendly and full of energy. She definitely added to our dining experience. The food was delicious too! I had the luxury fish pie with green beans and Anadi had the chicken milanese... I then had the apple and rhubard crumble with ice cream - and didn't share it with him! Thank goodness for a big Heath to run on the next day! As we left, we were greeted by this awesome sunset!
Had the roast beef meal today. It was very average so very overpriced. The beef was nicely cooked but the veg were generally a bit of a disaster. When the meal arrived most of them were hidden under the beef (if you look closely to the left of the pic you can see one of the shrivelled devils trying to escape the mound). As soon as I started eating them I understood why. They were hiding! The carrot was almost invisible and inedible; the parsnip dry and shrivelled, but the potatoes were the biggest disappointment. I could hardly cut into them, they were so dry. I am convinced they had not been cooked today. I have never eaten such tasteless roast vegetables. The cabbage was just ok. To add to this overall calamity I could hardly taste the pitiful amount of promised rich gravy and had to work hard to find it. And I do not know why Yorkshire puds need to be quite so big - perhaps to help justify the price? I had a lukewarm and unimaginative crumble for desert which was accompanied by a tiny pot of I know not what. It tasted of I know not what too. The girls who served me were very pleasant, friendly and professional. The atmosphere is great. But I was left with a distinct impression the place might be just a bit complacent with regard to the quality being produced; the place is obviously very popular. (I was told by a member of staff that my complaint about the potatoes was one ‘they often hear’.) But the competition is fierce particularly at this price point. Perhaps they’re not bothered.
Absolute gem of a place! Love this pub in the heart of Blackheath. It speaks posh!! Amazing service, cheerful staff, and plenty of seating- both insider and outdoor patio area. They also do Babychinos- so its a super hit. They have board games for kids to play- completely taking the edge off the parents. Highly recommend a visit!!
Really tasty Sunday roast. Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating. Food and drink are very pricey, our meal (no starters or deserts) with a soft drink each came to way over £50 and that was with a 20% off voucher! A nice Sunday treat but probably not worth the money to be honest.
Katie and Daisy were absolutely fantastic, very efficient worked very quietly and friendly, both girls have the right job. This pub should be very happy to have them as they are not boisterous and loud they work with dignity ,well done ladies.
