Hotwells is specifically highlighted by Bristol City as an area where away fans are welcome, and The Mardyke appears on local away-fan pub lists. It’s about a 22-minute walk to Ashton Gate, so it works well as a pre-match stop. The pub is listed among venues with Sky Sports, so you can catch earlier kick-offs before heading to the ground. CAMRA/WhatPub notes regular cask ales (Bath Gem, Butcombe Original) and real ciders (Thatchers variants), while BristolWorld reports cheap pints and filled rolls—handy matchday fuel. WhatPub also lists close bus routes along Hotwell Road, offering simple links if you’re not walking.
Came here for between 1 to 50 pints with the boys before wingfest. We were not disappointed. If painted black dingy walls, mobility scooters, cheap pints and cheaper pork scratchings and slot machines are your thing you'll absolutely bloody love the place.
I haven’t been inside this pub, but I’ve walked past several times recently and unfortunately overheard racially insensitive comments right outside. It gave me a negative impression of the atmosphere. The pub itself may be fine inside, but first impressions matter. I hope management wants to create a space that feels welcoming for everyone, because if potential customers feel uncomfortable from the start, that’s business lost.
Great pub, excellent vibes. I’ve even met a few soulmates for life in this place, a few names spring to mind, such as Matthew Allen and Jim X. Will always love a Mardyke Monday. Viva La Mardyke!
Great little pub the bartender was so lovely only reason for 4 ⭐ and not 5 is I wish they had a draught IPA plenty of taps for one
Staff were very helpful and friendly and pleasant met a few friends in there for some drinks , Can't really say any more than that. It was clean and tidy.
