Stopped for lunch at this pub with a fringe theatre at the rear. A beautiful old building, once a stock market, with a huge decorative bar in the middle. Service was warm and friendly, our waitress was very chatty. A good selection of pies, sandwiches and various main meals. Beers, spirits and wines available. We chose a mushroom & lentil pie and chicken, bacon & leek pie for lunch. The meals were served with fresh veg and a mini gravy boat of red wine gravy. The food was good. The pub was busy with city workers and tourists enjoying a drink and lunch. Worth a visit.

Definitely recommend to those who appreciate the drinks in the grand but warm atmosphere. The interior is what truly sets the place apart. The grand space opens up under a high ceiling, creating an airy yet intimate feeling at the same time. A wooden bar as a focal point, the surrounding paintings and sculptures on the ceiling add depth and character, giving the pub the feel of a curated cultural space rather than just a place to drink.

I chose this place for a birthday dinner for my husband because it had good reviews and looked like a beautiful place. It is indeed beautiful, but the greatness stops there. The service was friendly, but not very helpful. We were not told when seated that we'd need to order and pay in advance at the bar, and we were told two different things about where we'd be seated and it was confusing. We were passed by many times with me trying to get someone's attention before we figured the process out. The pay in advance part makes it difficult if you want to add on a side or dessert during the meal. We ended up with 3 separate charges for our meal. The chicken, bacon and leek pie was fantastic, the rest were just ok, though they were cooked very well. They were kind enough to sub the mushroom pie for a chicken pie upon request. The cauliflower and cheese lacks flavor as a pie and a side dish. We both agreed the best thing on the platter was the red wine gravy. The brownie for dessert was delicious and made the birthday boy happy, so that saved the day.

OMG W-O-W amazing Sunday roast. I had chicken was tempted to try the chicken and leak pie but thought a Sunday roast would be a good meal to set the base line, disappointed that turkey wasn't on the menu but over all happy with the meal. Great service and exemplary customer service. The Yorkshire puddling blew me away, soft crispy definitely made inhouse, a good balance on the gravy too. Well presented. Felt stuffed worth the 20 bob. Building has charm and character definitely will be revisiting and hope to catch a show in the theater. The place has a charm and character perfect for a visit over the Christmas period where you can really feel it. It's important to visit such businesses to help keep them going so other generations to come get to experience it. To sum it up " I left this place 100% satisfied, happy belly happy bloke". I don't just hand out 5 star reviews just check my history, this place is well deserving of it and I can easily say it was down to kitchen and front of house staff, so thank you.

A magnificent and incredible place: solemn, beautiful, and full of history. You truly feel like you are inside a theatre, and you never get tired of admiring the décor—especially the ceiling with its stunning dome. We had lunch there and the dishes were very good. Expect to pay around £25 per person for a main course and dessert.
