Me and a group of friends came to this lovely establishment for a drink. How wrong we were to do so. When we arrived, things seemed to start off normal: we got in, got drinks, and sat down. We engaged in conversation for a while until another one of our friends arrived. He went inside to get himself and another one of our friends a drink, bearing in mind that we had been asked to show ID when we purchased them, and was declined the ability to buy two drinks at once because they needed to show ID alongside him. First red flag. Around 10–15 minutes later, another one of our friends turned up with an unopened Celsius™ energy drink, and before he could even make it properly to the table to greet us, the landlord of this lovely establishment came rushing out to inform him that this drink could not be on site and must be removed promptly. My friend, politely, stated that he would not open it and it was simply for afterward. This was not good enough, and the landlord stated so. We put the drink outside of the establishment’s beer garden and left it at that. When my friend, who had just put his Celsius™ energy drink outside of the establishment, went inside to get a drink, the landlord was staring at us on the security camera as if we were going to do something wrong. The only thing that we did wrong was go to The Plough.
This place is in desperate need of new management, and the landlord is in desperate need of some lessons in grace and decorum because he has about as much as a reversing dump truck without any wheels.
Good day.

Great pub, proper cosy local. First visit and made to feel really welcome. Great range of snacks and drinks. Warm scratchings are a must. Can’t wait for the live entertainment in the summer months!

Came here with a group of mates but quickly left as my mate was barked at for bringing an (unopened, mind you) energy drink can with no intention of drinking it in the beer garden. We were also told that the landlord was watching us on the CCTV despite only just arriving and causing no issues in the very short time we were there.
Very bizarre individual who appears to be running the place. Made our time there very awkward and we left soon after.

Shaun, Lisa and the team (not forgetting the pub dogs Amber and Ozzy!) do an amazing job of creating a friendly and inviting pub! The guiness is cracking and great selection of crisps (pork scratchings are to die for) ❤️❤️

A great local doesn’t get much better than this.
When it comes to Burton, beer and the pubs the beer is sold in, everyone knows of the Coopers Tavern, the Bridge Inn, the Elms, the Roebuck and maybe the Devonshire, but I wonder how many have heard of the Plough on the outskirts of town in Horninglow.
It’s a very local friendly pub, but don’t let that put you off into thinking the place is just some tatty boozer, it’s more than that for sure.
The pub is very well managed by the family who run it (so it’s always bustling on a Friday night typically), the food is great for a pub (recommend the pizzas and the bread rolls/cobs), plenty of parking, dog friendly, prices are decent (Tuesdays are good to visit with discounts on the cask ales), and the range of beers available is always pretty fab too (I think there’s usually two or three regular ones and the others are changing beers, could be wrong about that)
So when you’re visiting Burton to crawl around the pubs seeing what they have to offer in 2023, alongside the usual suspects downtown, consider popping into the Plough for a pint or two while you’re in town!
