Why is Dog & Pheasant good for fans?

The Dog & Pheasant is a recommended pre-match stop for away supporters heading to Colchester United, sitting about three-quarters of a mile (around a 10-minute walk) from the JobServe Community Stadium. It shows live football via Sky Sports and TNT Sports on big screens, creating a matchday atmosphere for build-up and post-game analysis. The pub also serves a full food menu, useful for a pre-game meal. Together, its proximity, televised football, and food offering make it a practical away-fan base on matchdays.

A modern and cosy experience for anyone wanting a good space for gatherings and celebrations in Colchester! The buffet was yummy and a delicious selection too! We highly recommend dining here. The atmosphere, the food, the drinks—everything was spot on 🫶

The Dog and Pheasant became an accidental regular for myself and my autistic child, who decided this is where we'd go after school. The staff have all been amazing, every time, completely understanding that they'd be a bit noisy and a handful. We love coming in and getting a kids mean (for them) and a plate of chicken wings for me. The pub is clean and nice. A lot of sports on TVs if you need that and a decent little play and grass area out back for the kids (and a covered, seated area for the hot summer days - including a couple of big TVs with sports). Throughout the entire time we've been visiting, the staff have been the absolute BEST. They've been more understanding than I could have ever asked, always so friendly and always make us happy to be here. This is a family pub. With family food (and a fairly decent few beers on tap) and a family atmosphere.

Family friendly pub, serving great food and fantastic service. Lovely staff who are happy to help, nothing is too much trouble. Plenty of play equipment for little ones. Now our preference over the The Rovers Tye, due to it having a park and being very family friendly.

Much nicer than it has been in previous times. Friendly and welcoming staff, reasonable food at very reasonable prices. Clean and tidy, speed of service good, can order through app or at bar. Dog friendly and child friendly. Part of the hungry horse chain so you generally know what you are getting in terms of menu and prices. Decent beer with three cask ales currently on sale.

Aaron smashed it, Got us seated, took our order. Had a good chat and had food and drinks to the table in no time. What an amazing experience. Considering we just wanted to pop in for a coffee. We ended up having a full English each. Well worth it. Tasted great and portion size was spot on. Cheers guys !

I have had a breakfast meal in there once before and it was very good. Eat there on a Sunday lunch time and it was awful. There was an abundance of flies. The Sunday lunch was absolutely rubbish, roast potatoes were not roasted they were fried and tiny. The beef I had was tough and almost uneatable. The veg was boiled almost to an inch of it's life and the gravy was sloshed on the plate. The Yorkshire Pudding was the only thing relatively decent. I was put off by the constant flies landing on my dinner to be honest. I reported it to the guy who looked like he was perhaps the Manager, a bald fellow with a beard, he didn't even come and see what I was saying and offer at least an apology. The toilets including the baby changing area were disgusting, excrement evident everywhere. I changed the baby on the seat by the table. I will not be eating here again. I perhaps could have understood it if the food was cheap but it was about average for the normal pub Sunday lunch. In reality for the quality it should have cost a fiver, not nearly three times that amount. Think long and hard before you spend your money for food in this pub, you will no doubt leave disappointed.
