We stopped here for one night as a group of six. The location is fabulous, and the rooms serve their purpose. Great location - close to the city centre. However, it is very noisy, and the window s were single pane, so we didn't get much sleep between the noisy drunk people leaving the town and the sirens. But as value for money goes, it was 5* as it was £100 for 6 people on a Saturday night.

I found this a lovely old pub, with a great feel to it. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the sharing platters for our group went down a treat. Their outside area was a bit busier and noisier ... But go inside for a much more relaxed and quieter environment - this place clearly caters for both!! A little bit out of the city centre, surrounded by some industrial, but I'd recommend.

In early March, we traveled from Valencia, Spain, to see a rare band play and check out the city. We were just wandering around looking for a spot for a beer and ended up staying there the whole night because of the really good vibe and how friendly and down-to-earth the staff were with us, even though our English wasn't the best. Definitely, if we're ever back in Birmingham, we'll go back because places like this are just great.

Went for a Sunday roast, 3 people had mixed, me - the beef roast. Beef was so red I couldn’t touch it! So my other half then ate all of my meat too, like he does and said don’t waste it. Worse decision he has ever done. The others had the beef and pork. After no horseradish (we was first in for roast, bad effort) then all staff wearing t-shirts promoting 0% Guinness - tried ordering, again didn’t have any. ||After 10 hours of eating it the belly cramps started. And oh my, did my other half know he was in trouble. He was poorly for 6 days, lost a weeks wages and it was awful. The other two who had the mixed roast was in same situation. It was 100% the roast as they all had the same and we got the text in the night saying ‘Are you both feeling ok?’ We knew it was that! I emailed the old crown - no reply. So my sister in law called and said they would investigate. We got a refund and have now been invited back, there is not a chance I would step back in your pub and eat again after how poorly my husband was. The fact in the email it states ‘ you can’t be 100% certain’ is a joke. I wish I had taken a sample to drs and proved it was. As funny the 3 who all ate the same, was mega poorly. Avoid at all costs, unless you can afford to lose weight and want to be poorly.

Came for Sunday lunch, were seated straight away at a cute table next to the radiator which we were thankful as it was very cold outside. Very cute old country pub vibe and decor instead. Lunch came out about 10 mins after ordering with great portion size. I did find it went lukewarm quite quickly but none the less enjoyed the food as everything tasted great. It could have been a little warmer inside as was still a little cold even tho I had a jumper on but overall enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.

Birmingham's oldest pub offers excellent ales, really nice food and a good atmosphere. The outside courtyard has been upgraded with a roof and space heaters for the colder days. The Old Crown is a must visit location for any trip to Digbeth.

Great value for money. It is ideal for solo travelers who only care about having a clean bed and bathroom. The pub, which is downstairs, serves nice food and a good variety of beers.
