Such a lovely hotel - the people are so friendly and the food is amazing!! We ate in the restaurant on Friday night and my partner had the Fat Badger Burger - he said it was the best burger he’s ever had! I had chicken skewer and it was delicious. Breakfast if amazing and plentiful and the service is outstanding- Debs really looked after us and made us feel so welcome. We were lucky with the weather and spent a few hours in the secret garden and the service was great. We had a double deluxe room and it was really quirky and homely. The location is great and we will definitely stay here again when we come back to York

Last minute trip to York and we always prefer a pub with rooms. There’s plenty of fancier places in York but, for us, the Fat Badger was perfect. Arrived mid morning after confirming we could leave our bag whilst we went out for some sightseeing and lunch. Staff were fabulous and checked us in so we were able to go straight to our room in the afternoon. Room was fabulous, water, tea, coffee, biscuits, toiletries and spotlessly clean. Bed was so comfy. Breakfast was also great for us, toast, eggs Benedict, coffee, fruit juice. Would certainly recommend , despite the scaffolders next door starting pretty early in the morning . Thanks for a fab stay

My in-laws booked the fat badger for a family dinner. We were 6 adults and 3 kids. They booked a little nook that seated us all which was , I suppose, a private room. We aren’t the easiest of groups with one of the kiddos having severe allergies (epi pen, rushed to hospital type of allergies). We always call ahead to let the kitchen / staff know and to see if they can accommodate. The staff were so kind and so easy going. Nothing seemed to be a bother- even though I know it’s stressful. We were really blown away with the ease the kitchen seemed to be able to accommodate. ||We had a great meal. The burgers are super tasty. The rump steak was cooked well and so enjoyable. The chicken ballotine was a delicious. I’d recommend the fat badger for the food for sure and the staff. They have a lovely garden also. It’s very central so easy to get to and we would highly recommend going. Thank you greatly.

Loved the location just inside the city walls. They have done a great job of retaining the feel of a very old pub, while at the same time, making it comfortable for today's travellers expectations. The room which we were upgraded to was lovely & the service from each of the staff that we came in contact with was excellent. I would like to make special mention of Michael (who I think was probably the manager) for looking after us the way he did. He certainly wore many hats during our stay as every time we turned around, there was Michael doing everything from making sure we were happy with our room to helping serve our dinner in The Secret Garden. Thank you Michael for helping to make our stay so comfortable & enjoyable.

Had the Sunday roast with my family (made a reservation because summer in York seems pretty busy!). We were sat in a really neat little nook with a nice open window (heat wave). There is a kid’s version of the Sunday roast (chicken, beef, or pork), which is nice. The Sunday roast was wonderful, with the chicken being the best and the red wine gravy a real highlight. We also tried the Badger burger (very good) and the eponymous ale (also good) before having their version of sticky toffee pudding (I wish we ordered more—criminally good). Service was relaxed and friendly, bathroom decent and not scary which is really appreciated in a pub.

Had a very disappointing lunch here yesterday . The four of us were seated in the front dining room which is nice and light compared to the other rooms but the table was sticky and there were half a dozen flies buzzing around. ||Three of us ordered the chicken harissa skewer and one had the mushroom gnocchi. Two of the chicken skewers were undercooked and my chicken was still bloody so I sent it back. We'd waited quite a while for the food so I just had the chips. All the pitta breads were rock hard and inedible. The waitress brought fresh pitta which was lovely which begs the question why we were served a piece of shoe leather in the first place? ||The serving staff were very polite and attentive but not sure what's going on in the kitchen. We'd waited a while for our food so I asked the waitress to check on it. She came straight back with the food which tells me it had been sitting there, waiting for someone to come and serve it. And probably the reason it wasn't too hot.||We did get a reduction on the bill but that's to be expected when served food we couldn't eat. I hadn't seen these friends for a while and the venue was my suggestion so it was all a bit embarrassing. We went elsewhere for dessert - The Luxury Ice Cream company on Grape Lane!

Fantastic hotel for visiting York. We only stayed one night unfortunately but could easily done 3 or 4 in this cozy hotel and bar. We arrived a little early and they set us up in a room even before check-in which was great. Only thing I would say is that the luggage storage is very limited so have a backup plan ready as well.

Arrived here for a post wedding drink. We decided to order food. I thought the steak sandwich and herb fries sounded nice. When I ordered the herb fries I thought it would be fresh herbs or fried rosemary at least. I was presented with a full jar of dried herbs on my fries. Steak sandwich was bang average. For almost £20 I expected much more.
