Sand Martin

Why is Sand Martin good for fans?

The Sand Martin sits next to Cardiff City Stadium, making it a convenient pre- or post-match stop. The pub specifically highlights its location for a post-match meal, and CAMRA/WhatPub notes it adjoins the stadium and that on Cardiff home matchdays alcohol is served only with meals—useful to know for planning. It’s also listed by Football Ground Guide among pubs for away fans near the ground, while fan reports say away supporters do use it (albeit with the meal requirement at busy times). With daily food service and a rotating range of cask and keg options, it works as a practical matchday meeting point within a short walk of the turnstiles.

My second visit was even better than the first. Food was again very tasty, well presented, and piping hot. Service was attentive, polite, and friendly, and when I mentioned my phone had totally run out of charge, they offered to recharge it for me. The Sand Martin is obviously family friendly, and there were several groups of three or more generations enjoying their meals The menu offers a range of traditional fare as well as some specialities with a wide choice of beverages also available. Prices are reasonable, which also helps to encourage repeat business and family groups. The pub is in a prime location, adjacent to Cardiff City football ground. Ample off-street parking is available nearby. Although parking may be more difficult on match days. Diners might also want to reserve a table when City play at home. The only thing slightly lacking is that decor and some of the seating are looking a bit tired and showing some signs of wear. The brewery need to give these hard-working staff a boost with a refurbishment of the establishment (a pay rise would probably also be appreciated) c'mon Marstons, you know what to do!

Came in on a Sunday lunch time. Google said it was less busy than usual. We ordered using the QR code and our drinks came straight out. 40 mins later and we are still without food. Staff say it's at least another 10-15 min wait! Nearly an hour for a burger and some nachos is ludicrous! It is not busy, there are loads of empty tables. I'd hate to be here during peak time. Food arrived at about 45 min (because we went and asked about getting our money back - we had an appointment looming). The nachos were tasty even though the amount of vege chilli seemed light for £4.50 extra. The cowboy burger was decent enough. It would be helpful if staff provide an estimated wait time for food (especially if you order via the QR code). Folk who arrived after us and ordered at the bar were told it was a half-hour wait, which was not what we experienced. The overall experience, coupled with the prices means I won't be coming here again. We should have just gone to KFC next door!

We attended a family gathering yesterday and ordered various dishes selected from the extensive menu. The food was cooked and delivered in good time, no one having to wait long for their meal. The quality of food, service and attention given was very good and we all commented on the overall experience. With the selection of drinks available at the bar the whole time spent was faultless. We will certainly consider another gathering where I am sure the exercise will be repeated. Well done to all staff for their efforts in providing a first class service.

Regular carvery £14. Smallish place. 2 slices of very thinly cut beef that lasted about 10 seconds. Only green veg on offer was frozen peas. Cauliflower, sprouts and green beans were all being prepared. For the money it was very average sadly.

The Sabnd Martin is a really lovely pub, clean, tidy and comfortable, the staff are lovely but unfotunaltely the food does not live upto the same standards. Whilst not being the worse meal we've ever had out it was certainly not the best. The food was cooked nicely, apart from bullets instead of peas and absolutley the worse veggie sausages I've ever tasted (and don't mention the texture). Also the food was quite cold, which is not always an advantage !! As to portion sizes, I know you can have as much veg as you like but the amount of meat for 15.99 was pitiful. So whilst we actually enjoyed ourselves, it was too expensive and not really upto the standard expected. but please pass on our thanks to the staff who were all lovely.

Visited on a Wednesday. Nice to be able to choose a table and opt for bar service or on the app. Ordered on app. Staff were very uninterested and appeared not to be there. Half restaurant and fire door cordoned off. However, the food was very good even if add on on burger was missed. Staff not approachable.

Lovely spacious restaurant / public house. Clean and tidy with friendly and helpful staff. A very comprehensive menu for food and drinks, reasonably priced too. On my first visit I had the carvery, this was excellent quality and fantastic taste at a great temperature. We most definitely visit again, highly recommended 10/10.
